Attention seeking behavior is to act in a way that is likely to elicit attention. (1). This barage of attention has reached an oversaturation point and consumers have switched off their brand allegiance when bombarded by a companies attention seeking mechanisms.
Consumer's today are more likely to unsubscribe and unfollow a company, product or brand that "Storyelling" instead of connecting with more contextulized content that educates, entertains or enlightens a customer. The issue is one of substance over expeditious implementation. Most companies are implementing a vapid 'look at me' vs a rewarding 'deep focus' attention strategy.
Right Said Fred song - "I’m Too Sexy" said this in a hilarious way. It's the same way today. "Shake my little toosh on the catwalk." Exactly. I'm too vapid for my shirt. This is the attention problem modern day brands suffer from. They demand attention in the most empty, narcissistic of ways and the result is a backlash from consumers. The end result of over this attention seeking behavior, audience capture, consistently ends in anti-interesting.
